Theme
Grounded in the history of public interest law in China, the film explores how sustained commitment reshapes both individuals and institutions. Over decades, some choose to stand with the vulnerable and pursue social justice through legal action. With hearts oriented toward an ideal horizon and feet planted in present realities, thirty years pass yet the commitment endures.
In 1995, at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, Guo Jianmei was moved to act. She founded the Peking University Women’s Legal Research and Services Center and became China’s first public interest lawyer. Through a retrospective of the Center and its affiliated law firm’s landmark cases, the film traces a legal movement that advanced women’s rights and strengthened protections for women and children, contributing to a more equitable future.
